What is it that finally makes you realise you're in New...

Well, I%26#39;m now down to less than 3 days to go and shall be landing at JFK at approxiamately 11pm on Wednesday. I%26#39;ve been wondering what will it be that makes me realise that I%26#39;m finally in New York and shall let you know when I return.

So, what is it that when you experienence it finally makes you realise that you are in New York. It could be a sight, a sound or even a smell that finally makes you think ';Yes, I%26#39;m in New York'; or for New Yorkers, ';Yes, I%26#39;m home'; or even ';No, I%26#39;m home and it%26#39;s work tomorrow';.

What is it that finally makes you realise you're in New...

The honking of the taxi%26#39;s! : )

What is it that finally makes you realise you're in New...

JFK. The yellow cabs lined up. The bumper to bumper traffic on the Van Wyck, and then....the skyline approaching the bridge or tunnel.

I visited New York for the first time in November last year. We were really tired after the flight and were very glad to get into the mini bus to take us to the hotel. It was when my husband pointed out of the window and I saw the statue of liberty that it finally felt like I had arrived. I%26#39;d been looking forward to the trip for months and I have to admit I shed a tear or two when I saw SOL.

I%26#39;ll second the first view of the skyline! Plus the steam coming out of the drains and the vibration of the subway beneath you as you sit in a cafe :o)

Even now, after having been to NYC 7 weeks ago, I have to pinch myself to realise that yes I have been, and yes I did wed there, it%26#39;s bizarre!

The line up of the taxis at JFK, the traffic on the way into Manhattan and that amazing sight of the skyline...I love it.

The buzz....that%26#39;s the only way I can describe it - it%26#39;s all of the above and more.....but I get excited going through Customs and hearing the American voice for the first time :)

Have a great time :)

also the empire state building, the taxi%26#39;s, eating a hot-dog on the street and all the NYPD cars!!

I%26#39;m totally smitten with NYC and can%26#39;t wait to go back.

It%26#39;s making me emotional just thinking about the place!

For me it starts the minute I get off the plane and start walking in the airport. For some strange reason you can feel a different energy in the air. I find myself walking a little faster, and definitely experience an adrenaline rush. There%26#39;s no place like it.

Such an interesting question for those of us who have yet to experience NYC. Hope you have a great time %26amp; find out the answer to your question. We will be finding out the very same thing in July %26#39;06 %26amp; we can%26#39;t wait!!! :-)
