What is the elevator experience like going up? I am so claustrophobic, and in situations like that it seems that people always jam themselves in rather than wait for the next car (although I have been known to spread my arms and say NO -- NO MORE PEOPLE!'; much to the embarrassment of my family. How long is the trip to the top? Is it straight up or do you stop at floors?
I find it difficult to breathe while on an elevator with a lot of people, so I need a car that goes up FAST.
Or maybe I should just skip it entirely.

about Top of the Rock....they only allow a specific number of people in the elevator at one time, not sure what that number is, but I wasn%26#39;t crowded. The thing about the trip up is they have you looking up. They have a kind of movie on the ceiling but beyond that you see the elevator shaft lit up with colors changing as you rise. The ride is very, very fast but you don%26#39;t feel the movement. I think it%26#39;s some scientific thing about looking up that makes you not feel it. It is not an unpleasant experience and if you have a mild claustrophobia it will in all likelyhood be ok. Anyway, once you get to the top it is all well worth it.
about Top of the Rock....Agree, it is very fast, but the elevators are full, but not jam packed, so don%26#39;t skip it, it is very nice.
Do not worry at all..the elevator is not jam packed they control how many persons enter. It is so fast you will be at the TOTR before you know it.
Enjoy.
I went up in it last week and they do fill it but it isnt as jammed as the ESB ones.
look up when you go in it as the ceiling becomes transparent and the lift shaft is all lit in fancy colours it is fab!
it takes about 50 seconds or so. Have a look at my pictures with the link below you can see the colours! and when you are up there use the telescopey things to see people on top of the ESB!
