Just returned last
night from 2 nights at Grand Hyatt, myself and daughter, we were very pleased with it all, they let us check in Sat a.m. at 10:30 am!!! Great room and great location, bought it on priceline for $120.00 a night, it was my first time bidding on priceline, and I;ll always do that from now on..........
Grand Hyatt Grand Central Station
just to burst your bubble, an enterprising person here on the message board found a hotel room at the Courtyard Marriott in Times Square for $99 ;-)
the reason the rooms were so cheap was because it was Christmas Eve and Christmas Day
I was at TKTS on Saturday, 12/24, and the line was minimal - about a 10-minute wait
so, if you want to come to New York at Christmas, you should be able to get good rates for 12/24 and 12/25
Grand Hyatt Grand Central Station
Untypically unkind of you broadway. The Hyatt is a 4* hotel and I would prefer it to the Courtyard in TS. Glad you had a good time spark. I just suggested someone else try bidding for a room for Feb. Glad it worked out. Priceline is especially good for short stays. ;) Happy holidays.
That%26#39;s a great rate for the Grand Hyatt, and that hotel is in an excellent location for a short holiday stay like yours.
many people read this message board
many are probably sitting there wondering why they are only able to get hotel rooms that are $250+
the purpose was to put this great rate in perspective; ie it was Christmas Eve and Christmas Day; very slow days in NYC if the short lines at TKTS are an indication
don%26#39;t want other people to be frustrated and screaming at their travel agents why they can%26#39;t find hotel rooms in NYC during the holidays at a 4* hotel for $120
Yes, the fact that it was Christmas Eve/Day is important, but equally important was the fact that she booked at the last minute on Priceline. If she%26#39;d tried to book the same dates at the Grand Hyatt a month or two in advance, I guarantee you she would not have gotten that $120 rate. And I think that is true during many periods, not just Christmas Eve/Day. If you can wait until a couple days before your arrival and bid on Priceline, you may get a very good last-minute deal.
I actually stayed at the Grand Hyatt myself with my soon to be husband. The hotel is great and it is close by to everything. The price that you got was really good. We also bid on priceline and got the same rates, but we went in the summer of 2004!!
Nice job, Sparky. If there are two people in your party, and one bed per room will suffice (if necessary), then priceline is a great way to bid to get the lowest prices on hotel rooms.
I recommend using a site like betterbidding.com to get advice on the ins and outs of priceline bidding. There are many little rules that can make a big diffrerence.
Knowledge is power.
We stayed at the Grand Hyatt as well. It was our first visit to NY. I had read on this forum about trying to ask for an upgrade, so I thought `what the hell` and went for it. After a short time they upgraded us to the Regency Club(floor that only Regency Club members could get to with a special card to stick in elevator, and own breakfast bar, newspapers, etc)for free. How cool!! Just made me smile whenever anyone saw me putting my card in the slot in the elevator, and seeing them peer round into the corridor when we got to our floor! hehe
Also, yes it is a great location. I would return.
Mark
