New Year's Eve in Times Square

Hi,

My whole family and I are traveling to NY for the new year%26#39;s celebration in Times Square from Maryland. We%26#39;ll be staying at a hotel in Newark and were thinking about taking the train to Times Square, is this the best way to get there? Also what is the best time to arrive at Times Square for the show? And any recommendations for the fact that there will not be portable restrooms provided there. Comments are greatly appreciated.

it is slightly cheaper to go by PATH from Newark Penn Station than by NJ Transit though it takes about 15 minutes longer because with PATH there is a change of train; not sure about parking near Newark Penn Station

is there some reason you are staying near Newark?

if you have a car, there are ';better'; places to stay the night than Newark

The reason we%26#39;re staying in Newark is because it%26#39;s the only place where we found a cheap hotel. Is it a bad/dangerous area?

since NJ Transit is running extra late trains and buses on Dec 31, you can pretty much stay anywhere near a train or bus station

We%26#39;ll be staying at the Holiday Inn Newark International Airport. It%26#39;s $115 per night and $15 for parking.

We would like to do some sightseeing the day before and early on the 31st, is the hotel area safe for walking to landmarks or should we drive there?

from reading the description of the hotel, it%26#39;s by the airport which isn%26#39;t near downtown Newark anyway if that is your goal

you%26#39;ll need to find out if the hotel shuttle will take you to Newark Penn Station in downtown Newark to take the train or PATH; otherwise you%26#39;ll need a taxi

You should get there around 4 or 5 pm at the latest to get a good view. There really isn%26#39;t a ';show'; per se. Here is more info:

Sorry, I don%26#39;t know about the hotel situation, but broadwaynyc is very knowledgable about New Jersey. I would listen to what broadwaynyc says.
