Would just like some advice. I plan on taking my two kids (16 %26amp; 13) and wife to Times Square for New Years. Just something we%26#39;ve always talked about experiencing and thought we%26#39;d do it before the kids leave the house. Hotel booked at Hampton Inn in Secaucus, from Thursday til Sunday. Is there bus service from there to Manhattan? I plan on reserving a parking spot at the Allure parking garage on 42nd street for new years eve, via the Icon Parking System. Is that a good location to get back to NJ after the ball drops? The plan is to park there Saturday morning and walk to Times Square. How far a walk is it? Can I access my vehicle after I park it? How long do you think it will take to get out of Manhattan after midnight? Any advice for getting around Thursday and Friday? Bus? Subways? Is it possible to actually drive around Manhattan and see some of the sights that way? Any advice would be appreciated?
new year's eve first time advice
for that hotel use the #320 NJ Transit bus from Port Authority Bus Terminal at 42nd st and 8th ave; $2.85 one-way for adult; your kids pay adult fare; download schedule at www.njtransit.com
NJ Transit is running buses until 5:30am for the #320 for New Year%26#39;s Eve; so if you don%26#39;t want to drive you don%26#39;t have to
subways do not run to NJ
I wouldn%26#39;t recommend driving around Manhattan.
Most people who drive to Manhattan, park then use subways and buses to get around

Don%26#39;t know about New Jersey.
Don%26#39;t drive around Manhattan to sight-see. Take a Grayline bus tour or just get on a city bus for a couple of hours!

For info on using and riding the subway (which is your best bet for travel around NYC) see these websites:

Re: New Years Eve in Times Square: have fun standing for 6 hours, cheek-to-cheek with 750,000 of your closest friends, without a bathroom in sight! For more info about Times Square at New Years, see this post (and post-within-post)

You should get there around 4 or 5 pm at the latest to get a good view. There really isn%26#39;t a ';show'; per se. Here is more info:

Pubolic transportation will be safe because (a) everyone will be using it, and (b) it will be impossible to find a cab.
have fun!
Thanks for all your advice. Do you think it would be better to drive in and park in the parking garage at 43rd street on New Year%26#39;s eve day? Or would we have better luck getting back to NJ, after the ball drops, on the bus? Also, once in the parking garage, is it possible to still have access to your vehicle? Thanks again for all your help.
