Hi all. I was wondering if any of you would mind helping me with this. . . I%26#39;m taking my lovely girlfried (soon to be wife) to New York for a badly needed break, arriving on the 5th Jan untill the 9th. I was wondering what are the best things to do/see in NY if on a short trip, we want to relax a bit and not run around like headless chickens trying to get it all in. I have booked seats for a game at Madison Gardens on the 6th (big sports fans) and have very little else org. after that. Any help would be great, Thanks

It would help if you could let us now what some of your preferences are because there is an awful lot to do in NYC. Do you like theater, music, concerts, museums, outdoor things, walking, fine dining, etc, etc.... Read some posts on here, especially trip reports from people who just came back. Do any of things sound good to you?
Trip advice
Read the Ta post ';only have 2 days in NYC.The answer gives a lot of options.I like Times Square-combination of Picadilly Circus and Las Vegas.Go to Top of The Rock,Grand Central Station,Rockerfeller Center, look for a street fair on the weekend. The ferry over to Ellis Island or Statue of Liberty is a must.A few suggestions to ponder.
e, first you should know about the fun restaurant / bar available to you as a ticketholder to a Knicks event: the ';Play by Play Restaurant';. It%26#39;s located off an escalator on the left (south) side of the entry plaza of the Garden, ask any employee. It%26#39;s open 2 hours before the start of the game, then all through the game and for one hour after. I love it, if the two of you are sports fans, it%26#39;s heaven. You can have dinner, drinks, loads of sports fun.
To relax, hit the streets. Have a general idea what you would like to see, then start walking toward it. Wander in, wander out, wander up and wander over. Do that for a few days, grab a hotel massage here and there and rest assured, the Statue of Liberty will forgive you for not visiting. The Empire State Building will still transmit, etcetera etcetera etcetera.
The great thing about NYC is that you can just ';land'; and start walking and have a great time anywhere.
Sports Fans: Jimmy%26#39;s Corner, boxing stuff mostly, 140 W 44th St. It%26#39;s a joint. Love it, get into it or move along.
Feeling art?: the Frick, the best collection in the most relaxing atmosphere bar none. Rarely a line, always a great experience.
Or stay in the hotel and test the thread count . . . Have fun, whichever!
The Play by Play restaurant sounds like ESPN Zone... I checked the Garden%26#39;s website and found this info:
Event/Restrictions
New York Knicks Game--Club Seat %26amp; Suite Ticket holders
New York Rangers Game--Club Seat %26amp; Suite Ticket holders
So you can only go if you have those tickets?
Thanks alot guys, alot to consider here. We like anything and just want to sample as much as we can of NY without going over the top. Thanks again
