Has anyone got a quick summary of tips for a a first timer to New York.
Tips
1 Make sure you do Times Square the first night, it%26#39;s awesome, the smells ,sounds, people around. If you go the first time in the day I reckon it would kind of prepare you
2 Goto Empire State, we book our tickets on line in advance to beat queues and also Statue of Liberty.
3 Grab a show if it%26#39;s your thing.Plenty of sites with tickets...playbill, broadwaybox
4 But most of all enjoy yourself it%26#39;s a fantastic experience. Id say it was one of those places you could go back to again and again. If you want to just wander around looking then do that, there is just so much to do.
Enjoy

Have a great time!
Get a good guide book before you leave. I like the DK Eyewitness Guides. Don%26#39;t run yourself into the ground trying to do everything..leave time to actually enjoy the city
The first thing you need to do is get a good map. Many folks here recommend the DK Eyewitness guides. Personally, I like the Not for Tourist maps. Very thorough, and all are printable from the website:
www.notfortourists.com/newyork.aspx
There are also maps on Trip Advisor. Click on ';New York City Maps'; on the left of this webpage.
To sightsee, group things by location/neighborhood. For example, in lower Manhattan you can do these within a 1 mile radius: Staten Island Ferry, Battery Park, Wall Street, Trinity Church, Subtreasurey Building, Museum of Finance, Ground Zero, Century 21, St. Paul%26#39;s Chapel, Fulton Street, South Street Seaport.

I think the best deal for a first-timer is the double decker tour bus. It takes you to all the highlights - you can hop on and off whenever you want. That way you can get a good picture of where the different neighbourhoods/attractions are. Then you can go back and spend more time in the areas you want to later.
