Just wanted to thank everyone in the forum here who helped to guide me in my first trip to NYC. And to the people of New York who were so amazingly friendly to us. No matter where we were--in the subway, on the street, in snowy Central Park, everyone was amazing. Also found a cool restaurant that I haven%26#39;t seen on here before--if you get a chance, check out ';Paprika'; in the East Village. It was really amazing, especially the artichoke ravioli. :)
Thanks NYC!
Happy for first trip was good, but more details, please.
Anything exceptional that you would recommend, or any ';don%26#39;t bother'; things?
We love to know.
Thanks NYC!
I agree - let%26#39;s hear more! What did you do? What did you like or dislike? Please post hotel and restaurant reviews here on T.A. and also on:

I%26#39;ve never heard of Paprika, but it does look excellent. You might want to post a review on menupages.com as well.
Here%26#39;s what we did while in the city: Stayed at the Lucerne, which was very conveniently located near the subway. The concierge there was very, very helpful. We arrived on a Weds and had lunch at ';Good Enough to Eat.'; It was ok, not spectacular. We then took the subway to the Empire State Building (great views on a beautiful, clear day) and walked through Times Square. Had dinner at Miss Elle%26#39;s (I think that%26#39;s how it is spelled). We got an ';early bird'; special because we were heading to a concert, and for the price, what a deal. 3 courses for $14.99 per person. Didn%26#39;t expect that in NYC! Then off to Madison Square Garden for a concert. Thursday we took the subway to the Staten Island Ferry. Great views of Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty, and it is free! And then we walked through lower Manhattan in the parks, past the 9/11 site, and to the Irish Potato Famine memorial (I know...weird, but somehow it sounded intriguing). It was really not too exciting but how many times can you visit a potato famine memorial? Grabbed a quick lunch at Dean and Deluca and walked some more, then back to change and went to Blue Man Group. I loved Blue Man! Even got our photo taken with a Blue Man at the end. For dinner that night, we walked to Paprika in the East Village. Everything about our experience at Paprika was wonderful--I strongly recommend it. Then stopped in to see Grand Central terminal and walked up to Rockefeller Center to see the tree. Friday we woke up to tons of snow so we grabbed a cup of coffee and headed to Central Park. Also went ice skating in Central Park--a nice experience until they closed off nearly 1/2 of the rink for skating lessons....that kinda took away from the fun of it. Then we went to Times Square and waited in line at the TKTS booth and scored tix to ';Chicago.'; Afterward, warmed up with some hot cocoa and went back to our hotel to get ready for the show. Had dinner at Nice Matin (next to our hotel). The food was good, not great, but the service was very good. Then off to ';Chicago.'; Was looking forward to Huey Lewis as the lawyer but honestly he was the weak point in the show. Still, it was fun. Then more walking, saw Times Square at night, then crashed in our hotel. The last day we went to Tiffany%26#39;s (tried to go to FAO but the line went all the way around the block) and to Riverside Park. Then it was off to Laguardia and the trip home.
I%26#39;ve started posting restaurant reviews for the places we went. And again I%26#39;m thankful for everyone%26#39;s input and advice that made for a wonderful trip. :)
wow! What a terrific report! You managed to hit big, classic sites, as well as a few items off the beaten path. Sounds like a great trip!
So, did you end up bringing your camera into MSG? ;o)
What did you think of the Upper West Side?
QueensBoulevard--I chickened out and didn%26#39;t bring my camera into MSG. I should have, though. Everyone else did! Oh well, a lesson learned. And re: the upper west side--we loved it up there. It was nice to have a place that was ';away'; from the hustle and bustle, but still so close to everything, especially Central Park. I%26#39;d definitely stay in that part of the city again.
Great report, lucky you waking up to snow... I saw the Blue Man in Vegas a few months ago and i thought the show was fantastic to.
