new year in times sq

I%26#39;m spending New Years Eve in NY but wouldn%26#39;t think about being in Times Square. As soon as someone tells me that I can%26#39;t go to the loo, I need to, and being stuck in a pen full ofpeople for hours with no facilities,,urgh! If you do a search on this subject you will find posts from people who%26#39;ve done it though .

new year in times sq

Times Square at New Year%26#39;s Eve is very, very crowded. Folks get there early in the day to find a place to stand. If seeing the ball drop in Times Square is a lifelong dream, it%26#39;s worth it. Otherwise, check out other options in Manhattan. There are many places to be in the city that will make the evening memorable.

We did 2004/5 New Years Eve in Times Square. We stayed in The Doubletree. As Bettina says, this is really the only way to do it. We paid about 200 GBP for a suite and this went up a bit for the 31st night. You get a pass to allow you in and out of the Square and you can always go back to your room for a pee. The McD was open, so I don%26#39;t know why people don%26#39;t go in there ! The ';non-residents'; were blocked from the Square from about 19:00 (may be even earlier). It was a great atmosphere (I have done Trafalgar Square in London several times many years ago and it was as good). The pens started to fill up from about 22:00, but it was never uncomfortable. The only disapointment was the Ball was not as big as I expected and therefore not very easy to see from the Doubletree end.

If you want to know more from a ';English'; perspective let me know.

Hi!

Im from Tijuana Mexico, I came up to the net to look for MTV%26#39;s event at Times Square for New Years and I found this page with your post. Im staying at Doubletree also! Im kind of worried because this place is going to be freezing and I hate cold but oh well I already bought everything for new years at NY and I just hope to have fun besides of the croud and everything so..bottomline, any suggestions on having a cool night is welcome!!! Im a 25 year old girl, thanx!

I went to the New Years celebration in Times Square for 2002/2003. Like others have said, it depends on your view of the situation. I had always wanted to see the ball drop, so that%26#39;s why I made sure I went. However, my fam and I were staying at the Millenium Broadway at the time, and had no idea (naive-ly) that we needed to get a spot outside early. Around 9pm we realized that the police weren%26#39;t going to let us into the barracaded areas...so...my b/f of the time made up this huge story that he was going to propose to me while the ball dropped. Well, somehow, it worked! The policeman escorted us through the barracades at 11:30pm and brought us to a great spot! It was unbelievable! I really think it is an experience to see all the confetti fall around you and the unity of the crowd all singing Ald Angsi (Spelling?)

Just remember that odds are you are going to stand outside for hours waiting!

I did the times square last year and it was very cool. I however had a room in the marriott marquis facing the ball and believe me, I paid heavily for it. But it was worth it because why all those people downstairs were sandwiched in, I was drinking champagne and watching from my window. It%26#39;s true, you are stuck in there for hours. People started lining up around 5pm and you can%26#39;t get out. There are cops and security everywhere!! If its something you always wanted to do, then go for it!
