How to get great seats at Letterman???

Hey guys! My bf and I are arriving in NYC this Mon (Dec. 19) and I have confirmed tix for the Letterman show this coming Tuesday night (Dec. 20th). I know that I am supposed to be in line by 3pm and have guaranteed seats, etc. But I am wondering if anyone has been through this process and knows how to get the best seats? If you come early, do you get better seats, or is it random?

I have been told it has to do with how you are perceived by the people on the Letterman staff who decide who sits where -- in other words, they decide who sits up front based on what they%26#39;re looking for in a Letterman-friendly audience.

Interesting---Years ago, we went to be part of the audience for a taping of a talk show that was taped locally. You had no say where you sat--the staff told you where to sit. Sometimes, it depends on what you%26#39;re wearing and if the staff thinks you%26#39;re good looking or not--sad to say :(
