Romantic View Restaurant

I tried for the Asiate (sp) at the Mandrian Oriental and it was booked for this Friday night (surprise, surprise). But, oh, what a view it seemed to have.

Any other ideas of some memorable places to dine with some great views, other than Travern on the Green?

Many posters (visitors and residents alike) have written about positive experiences at the River Cafe in Brooklyn. Do a search on these boards and you%26#39;ll get loads of posts.

Also, the Rainbow Room/Grill in Rockefeller Center is a nice place for a (pricy!) drink with a great view. Haven%26#39;t eaten there, though, so can%26#39;t speak to the food. You%26#39;ll find their website if you google ';Rainbow Room.';

Oops. Wasn%26#39;t clear in my post. River Cafe, though in Brooklyn, is supposed to have great views of the Manhattan skyline. Also, do a search on these boards for Tavern on the Green. It gets some really bad reviews. If you%26#39;re interested in dining in the park, try the Boathouse.

Thank you. I did try River Cafe. No luck they are booked. I might try the Rainbow room. Any other ideas?

See if they have an opening at ';Riverview'; in Queens. It is just a short taxi ride from Manhattan, just on the Queens side of the midtown tunnel. 2-01 50th Avenue Queens. 718-392-5000. Has spectacular view of Manhattan form Queens side.

Try these lesser known rooms with views of the harbor in the Financial District and downtown area:

14 Wall Street (J.P Morgan%26#39;s former penthouse office)

Battery Gardens

Harbor Lights

SouthWest New York

Steamer%26#39;s Landing (but not too romantic, perhaps.)

Here%26#39;s the Riverview in Queens:

With River Cafe booked.... I%26#39;d skip the view thing. It truly limits you gastronomically. Two wonderful restaurants with great food and lovely surroundings... Danube and March would be absolutely beautiful and romantic. Tocqueville%26#39;s nice also.

What do you like about Danube?

Have you checked the dinner cruise? Bateaux NY

I went to Danube several years ago on my boss%26#39;s tab. As a successful attorney, once a year he took his staff out for dinner in New York. He was partial to David Bouley%26#39;s restaurants and we sampled Bouley as well as sister ship Danube. I am in the newspaper business now, and we don%26#39;t do dinners like that anymore...sigh...

But I digress..

The first thing I noticed about Danube is the room. It%26#39;s just beautiful. The tones are blue and gold. The artwork is classy (Klimt reproductions I believe), the walls have a kind of enamel on them I think. The chairs are about the most comfortable I%26#39;ve ever experienced in New York. It has a certain voluptuousness to it.

Our servers were very attentive but not intrusive. The menu is varied. I had austrian dishes including veal schnitzel with lingonberries. It was the best I ever had. My boss chose from their wild game offerings. Desserts were viennese pastries, which were delicious, and they gave us cookies to take home. I don%26#39;t recall what wine we drank, just thtat it was quite good. We had somne red and some whites.

Danube is upscale, classy, nice dress recommended. I didn%26#39;t pay the tab, but I know it was expensive.

For more information on the menu, check out menupages.com. You can make reservations online I believe at opentable.com. Or you may want to call them and tell them it is a special occasion. I am sure they will make it grand.

And for visitiors wondering where the Duane Reade drugstore got its name... Danube is located oin Tribeca between Duane and Reade streets.
