Trip Report Saturday 12 nov

Hi guys,

last Friday we arrived at LGA at 11.00, took a taxi to the hotel. riding time was 10 minutes.

I am currently sitting at my laptop in the hotel, Travel Inn, very neat and nice hotel. very clean. everyone is kind. today the weather looks gray, the rain has been forecasted. and it is freezing, although for me. My knee hurts, I have a kneeband on and I took some painkillers.

I have to take it easy today. here follows my trip report of our first day in Manhattan.

We will be staying till the 16th.

saturday: took the subway and went to South Ferry to take the boat to SOL/Ellis Island. walking through Battery Park we saw a few men with a sheet spread on the floor and lot of women standing around them. when we came near we saw them selling prada and LV etc bags. I immediately remembered what I read on this forum. my family didn%26#39;t understand why the men were doing so suspicious, like looking every second around. I explained that they are not supposed to sell these fake items as it is against the law. but I didn%26#39;t expect them selling these on the park. I thought they did this only in chinatown. but I felt good when I could explain them what was happening. And I am very thankful to this forum.

after this we went to buy tickets and when coming out of the building there were some young guys giving a acrobatic show. they were very funny. I laughed and laughed. the part I liked most was when they asked for donations, a group of ladies standing near us immediately turned away. the guys came running in their direction asking were they were going. they felt ashamed, and everybody laughed.

afterwards we went to stand in a long long line waiting to pass through security before boarding the boat. but it went verry quickly. along the line you%26#39;ll find the new-york-entertainers. someone playing a guitar, a latin-american man singing, and a caribbean man playing stealband. I loved the man playing the guitar, with his multicolor wig on he improvised a song for almost everyone standing in the line. he made jokes making the waiting time very funny. he played a song for me %26#39;a girl named Abby in Manhattan%26#39;, he also sang in Dutch, when we told him we are from Curacao.

on the boat we took a lot of pictures of the very nice views we passed by. it was awesome! My family totally enjoyed it!

afterwards we went to Ground Zero, it was very sad. reading the time line; there was a man standing there who was crying.

then we went eating and do some shopping.

we took the subway and went to the hotel. some stayed resting their feets others went to Times Square. they stood there amazed seeing all those lights. the streets were very crowded, a long line to the theather, I can%26#39;t remember the theather name right now. I bought some sketchers and then we went to the hotel. on my way back to the hotel, I was walking alone, some young guys asked me directions. they asked where to Lexington Ave. I think I was looking just like a new yorker, and I explained them like I was living here. when finished I was amazed to myself. I think I looked at the manhattan map too much.

then, we went to rest the bodies for the next day.

pfff, I am going to take a bath and prepare for going out. they are waiting for me.

this trip report is not over. this is just the beginning....

Sounds great! Glad you had nice weather for the boat trip.

Sorry you%26#39;re not feeling 100%. NYC streets and stairs can be murder on your knees. I%26#39;m sure if I drove a car, I%26#39;d be fatter, but with fewer foot problems.

Did you happen to see the street performer by the SOL that plays national anthems? You just tell him your home country, and he%26#39;ll play it.

Glad to know the bathtub is clean enough to use without concern! That says a lot about a hotel, imho.

Sounds like you are having a great time. Good that you are resting the bodies too!

So you%26#39;re finally here!! Please tell me what happened on your first night. Was the Travel Inn able to take you all or did you stay at an airport hotel near LGA? Glad to hear all%26#39;s going well, Abby.

queensboulevard: the hotel was very clean and neat arranged.

and after eating a lot of forbidden food, I am glad I walked and burned those calories. Because my weight did not move, it was the same when I arrived home.

nywhiz: we booked rooms through hotels.com

that is what they tried to tell me then. there were no rooms available trhough the hotel reservation, but only through hotels.com

I think they divide rooms among them.

Indeed a wonderful time! I will post some photos later on. Almost time to go home now...I%26#39;ll go wrap a few things up waiting for 5 o%26#39;clock...

Bye.

Abby
