Exotic Cuisine

I also had a question about any good restaurants in NY. Something exotic. My husband and I have enough funds for one good meal. We%26#39;re staying in a hotel just west of central park (about 2 or 3 blocks I believe). Any ideas? Thanks much!

Exotic Cuisine

Depends how you define exotic. I love Asiate, in the Mandarin Oriental at Columbus Circle. It%26#39;s Japanese-French, which might be considered exotic. Food and setting are divine, but it%26#39;s very expensive.

Exotic Cuisine

What do you consider exotic, and roughly how much $ are you planning on spending? And how far are you willing to travel? (e.g., willing to get on the subway--if it%26#39;s running--or does it need to be near your hotel). Also, Central Park runs from 59th Street to 110th--do you know what cross street you%26#39;ll be staying near/on?

I%26#39;ve read good things about Devi, an upscale Indian restaurant, and also Tabla, an Indian-fusion restaurant. You can try googling each of them, or visit www.menupages.com for some reviews.

Central Park is pretty long, so am not sure where you are except that you are on the west side. Yes, it really does depend on your tastes. For some, Chinese is exotic.

Shun Lee is a very good Chinese restaurant at 65th St and Columbus.

There%26#39;s an Ethiopian place at 106th and Amsterdam called Awash. The food is sort of Indian-ish, but different. Not really my cup of tea, but it certainly is exotic.

Cuban: Cafe con Leche

Turkish: Pasha

Vietnamese: Saigon Grill

Malaysian: Penang

You really have to be more specific about what you mean by ';exotic'; -- this is a town where places serving dim sum, blintzes, spanokopita, sashimi, curry goat, or calimari can be found in every neighborhood, but the majority of the population has never seen grits and would not know where to go to have them anyway.

So what kind of exotic do you have in mind?

I%26#39;ll guess ';anything not American, Italian, Chinese or Mexican';:

Afghan Kebab House on 9th Ave and 51st St. (Afghan)

Veselka (Polish)

Churrascarria Plataforma (Brazillian meat)

Holy Basil (Thai)

Katz%26#39;s Deli (Jewish delicatessen)

Haveli (Indian)

Moustache (Middle Eastern)

How about ';Ninja New York';? It%26#39;s a new ninja-themed restaurant that is supposed to be completely idiotic!

These are all over Manhattan. Where is your hotel exactly? There%26#39;s a nice Vietnamese/Thai place on Amsterdam around 76th...What%26#39;s it called...Rain?
