Diner recommendations wanted!

Yay!

Leave for NYC on Saturday and I am looking forward to it so much!

Plan to do a whole lot of eating with reservations at Asia de Cuba, Kittichai and a definite plan to head to the likes of Magnolia bakery and definitely sampling some comfort food in a diner or two!

Does anyone have any recommendations for a great diner? I don%26#39;t mind whereabouts in Manhattan it is or whether its great for breakfast or lunch....any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Diner recommendations wanted!

There are countless diners and coffee shops (another nickname for diner) all over! Yes, some are truly awful, but odds are, you%26#39;ll get decent hamburgers, sandwiches and french fries/chips at any orf them.

Famous and popular diners:

Empire (in many movies, but some say food is disappointing)

Moonstruck (the one on west 23rd St.)

Chelsea Gallery

Jackson Hole (the one on the 91st St., Upper East Side)

Gee Whiz (close to the WTC)

Eat Here Now

Big Nick%26#39;s (Open 23 hours a day)

Andrew%26#39;s (various locations. Serves lunch, not late meals.)

Cheyenne

Cosmos (Gramercy/Murray Hill area)

Malibu

Manatus

Florent (in uber-trendy Meatpacking District)

Soup Burg

Tom%26#39;s

...It suddenly occurs to me that I know many by sight and habit, not by name. (I%26#39;m using Menupages.com to find them.)

All I can say is don%26#39;t eat at the Galaxy or Galaxy II in Chelsea (yuck!!), despite what the review say! New Venus on 8th Ave. and 22 St. and The Tick Tock on 34th and 8th Ave. are not that good either.

Here%26#39;s the Menupages.com page I have been perusing:

Since they are inexpensive, try a few and report back!

I%26#39;ll add in Brooklyn Diner...especially for breakfast.

Also, diners usually have the best milkshakes, definitely necessary with a burger and fries.

Manhattan Diner, good breakfast for okay price. Corner of 77th and Broadway (upper west side) Nikos also on broadway and 76th, simple but adequate Greek food. No overload with tourist but locals coming in for a quick bite. Enjoy!

If you want the authentic experience, I recommend Cosmic Coffee Shop on Broadway and 58th St. It%26#39;s the type of place where the locals go.

If you care for something more upscale, Brooklyn Diner or Empire Diner, but be aware that they are pricey.

Thanks everyone!

I hope to try a few of these places and come back a few pounds heavier!!!! :)

Loved this comment by natif-noo-yorker:

';Earlier this year, one of our local daily newspapers named the Skylight Diner the best ';Open 24 hours a day'; Diner. The newspaper and staff took the rating very seriously and rated A LOT of diners in all five boroughs of the city. For brevity, I%26#39;ll tell you the winner in Manhattan was the Skylight Diner, 402 W 34th St, at Ninth Ave.';

';You won%26#39;t believe the almost unlimited choice of food or the price. If you get really lucky, the waiter or waitress will call you, ';Hon.'; ';

Can%26#39;t believe I forgot the Skylight!

I would like to try the cheyenne Diner. Is it easy to get to from the Times Square area. Is it near any of the major attractions so wouldn%26#39;t be difficult to find amongst the numerous other cafes etc.

Hiya. I was in new york with my boyfriend for 2 weeks in September and we tryed a restaraunt I was shown on the S*x and the city tour - its called Tao and its up on madison (if u check tao website u will get the address) My boyfriend is a fussy eater and I never though he would go for japanese and Thai but he loved it, and they do the best cocktails - i recommend the taotini! amazing.

americanvisitor--The Cheyenne Dinner is about a 15 minute walk from Times Square. It is near Penn Station and Madison Square Garden.
