Pennsylvania Hotel New York
This is what I wrote on Montrealtraveler%26#39;s post abut Hotel Penn:
';If I were in your shoes this is what I would do:
1. I would try to get out of the reservation and stay elsewhere....';
That is still my recommendation.
Clover, if you search other forums and really do your reserch, Firstly i would not advise you to ignore what is being said,Secondly if you could change hotels, Pennsylvania seems to be getting a lot of bad press and this can not be for no reason!! Your other option is to ring the hotel tell them what you have heard and tell that when you arrive %26amp; if the standards are not what were advertised that you will get on to the appropiate organisation. Clover do your reserch and hopefully all will be ok for you..
Clover, I have stayed there and it is not that bad. It depends on your standards.
The room we stayed in needed a paint on the walls and a good hoover round the edges of the carpet near the walls....but we never walked with our feet to the walls edges and never needed to touch the walls. The beds were clean and really comfortable and the bathroom was ideal.
This is a really cheap hotel so if you can put up with a few minor probs then you will have more money to spend in the shops!!!!
I would go back as their security was really good, safe deposits you have to go into a room to get your stuff with 2 keys, and there was a small safe in the room as well, plus left luggage took all our bags of shopping for free when we left our suitcases.
I never ate in the hotel as there are so many other places. For a first time in NYC it is great for all the different subway lines.
You will not be in the room for long trust me.
They weren%26#39;t bitten by fleas--they were bedbugs. Two Swiss women who stayed there and were bitten are suing the hotel. I wouldn%26#39;t stay there these days. Once upon a time in its heyday, it was quite a place. In the early 80s, I stayed there twice. Back then, it was a clean, no-frills hotel. However, the current owners have allowed it to become a fleabag dump.
I have just returned from 5 nights at this hotel, when we first arrived we were given a room on the 6th floor which was dreadful I called reception and asked to change rooms (we had heard that rooms above the 10th floor had been renovated). Reception sent a porter to move us upto the 12th floor and the room was very good nice bathroom and very clean.
Don%26#39;t be afraid to complain - once you get a decent room the location of the hotel is great and I would stay there again, but go out for breakfast - it is too expensive.
Enjoy your trip

I have just returned from my third time to stay at this hotel. It is a basic hotel but for all the time you spend in it there%26#39;s nothing wrong with it. The location is brilliant. The room we had was clean and warm. My friends also stayed in another room, unfortunately they had a visit from Mickey Mouse! but they got moved to another room and it too was fine. But if you do get a bad room then just complain until you get a good one. Enjoy your trip.
