U.K tax at customs

Im travelling to New York next week, Essentially for a shopping spree! I am planning to go over with an empty case and come back with it full, Does anyone know if this will cause me problems at customs (ie being charged tax) when i return to the u.k

You are only allowed 拢145 worth of goods before you have to pay duty. Doesn%26#39;t fill much of a suitcase! I%26#39;ve never been stopped at customs , not that I%26#39;m advocating dodging the duty... ;))
