Im heading to new york in january with my boyfriend and I would like some help with places that he would like to see. We%26#39;ve been once before and have seen the big attractions like statue of liberty, empire state building etc, and while I cant wait to go shopping and go on the s*x and the city tour I%26#39;d love some ideas for places that he%26#39;d like to go. He%26#39;s an architect and he loves modern buildings so if you know of any could you please let me know, and also any other suggestions.
Thanks a million
where a man would like to visitEasy - send him on one of the MAS (Municipal Arts Society%26#39;s) Tours. They%26#39;re geat walking (or bus) tours led by architects who love the city. Detail at MAS.org
where a man would like to visitAs an architect, he might enjoy the backstage tours of some of our great buildings. Backstage tours are offered at Madison Square Garden, Radio City, Grand Central Station and St John the Divine to name a few. For more ideas, consider the New York Pass [see here: http://www.newyorkpass.com/]
A very special treat for out of town architects would be lunch at the Lever House [http://www.leverhouse.com]. The building on Park Avenue is known in architectural circles as a true landmark, one which ushered in a new era in urban building.
As far as NYC architecture, I just discovered this site today:
http://www.nyc-architecture.com/
It has pictures of (nearly?) every building of note in the city... so he could see in advance which neighborhoods/buildings might interest him...
You should get him the Bible of NYC architecture: the AIA Guide to New York City!!! (Search for it on Amazon.) Get it for him for Xmas, and set him loose in NYC in Jan! He will love you for it!
I%26#39;m taking my man to:
1. Maxilla and Mandible, coz he likes creepy scientific stuff, bugs, all that boy stuff
2. a Sopranos tour
3.Village Chess Shop so he can catch a game while I do something more interesting
4. Firefighters Friend coz it is v manly!
5. Rockefeller Center Ice Rink - he loves his Ice Skating
Thanks a million for all the suggestions!
The lunch sounds interesting so I might try and book that for him
Warning - dining at the Lever House is a great reco, but watch out for sticker shock! It is very expensive.
Definitely go to the Guggenheim Museum, icon of architecture.
