Information on Broadway Musicals

Hi Guys, I%26#39;m Jack, Nic Brokenshire%26#39;s son, I am currently struggling with an essay about the Broadway musicals in the millennium and was hoping you guys could give me some much needed help! I am trying to gage how the improvements of Times Square has affected the theatres and the companies and also how the theatre companies have been affected by external events in recent years, such as 9/11 and other events. Also if any of you have any %26#39;secrects%26#39; or little known info on certain performers or shows that would be great also. Sorry to be so vague and I really hope you can help me! Jack X

Information on Broadway Musicals

Hi Jack, how are you? Hope things are going well, I know your Dad%26#39;s been pretty busy. He%26#39;s very missed here!

Your question is interesting, I%26#39;ll have to give it thought, and I%26#39;ll help if I can.

Sorry I can%26#39;t help with your question Jack, but can I say I loved your additions to your Dad%26#39;s NY report. Hope you get some useful information. Say Hi to your dad!

Hi Jack,

You might also try posting this question on the broadwayworld.com forum page. They%26#39;re quite knowledgable and willing to help.

Good luck!

I%26#39;m not certain how relevant an anecdote like this is, but I was on a plane to Dallas about a year ago and I was sitting next to a man from the NY suburbs. We were talking about New York City, and he told me how much he enjoyed regularly bringing his family (wife and kids) in, something he wouldn%26#39;t have done before ';Disney cleaned up Times Square.';

Jack - the ';Disneyization'; of Times Square and midtown Manhattan in general deserves further research and comment.

Another area to explore is the astronomical cost of mounting anything on ';Broadway'; which has resulted in musical after musical after musical being produced that appeal to the broadest audience taste. This has practically driven serious drama and edgier productions out of larger theaters.

Turning Manhattan into Branson, Missouri or Las Vegas isn%26#39;t necessarily progress.

I would submit that the city has recovered entirely from the set-backs of September 11th as it relates to tourism and the attendant support of musical theater. Job availability and starting salaries have not fully recovered but tourism is booming.

Thanks for the information guys and every is fine back at here, I can%26#39;t wait to come back to New York! Take Care God Bless Jack
