I锟斤拷ll arrive on july 8th and I am considering stay on Secaucus because hotel prices are too expensive in Manhattan... Can anybody tell me if this is not a good idea ? Thank you
Staying out of Manhattan
I highly recommend you read the New Jersey board at betterbidding.com. They have a sticky posted there about staying in New Jersey when visiting New York. One place often recommended on that board is the Hyatt in Jersey City. Good luck.
Staying out of Manhattan
secaucus is considered the garden of the northeast and you will not be disappointed if you stay there
8u22t - I don%26#39;t care if other folks think of you as a troll - you make me laugh every time you post something - a good sense of humor is a good thing!
I don%26#39;t remember which thread to tell you to review, but there has been a long debate in the past couple of days on this issue. Most people came down with recommending stays in Manhattan to reduce transportation cost and travel time, to get a better feel of the City, to be able to stay out in the City after the trains stop running (around midnight), and to be able to retreat, rest, change clothes, and deposit packages during the day.
I would have enjoyed staying in Manhattan but the cost was too much for me. Every time I checked one of the lower cost hotels recommended, it was booked. The only one that I did luck onto was under renovation with hammering promised beginning at 7 a.m., it was a 2 star, it would cost $150 on the cheapest bargain reservation cite but $250 everywhere else and the reviews talked about bugs, mice and lack of security. So, I stayed in Jersey. The down side for me was there were no taxis in the area I stayed so I had to walk to the train each time (only 1/2 mile but I had a young child with me). Also, the morning I missed a train, the next train didn%26#39;t come for an hour.
As long as you are willing to use NJ Transit to go to and from the City (which I did every day for 4 days without any significant problems), you should be able to save money and probably find a nicer place to stay.
I carried a bag with me with a change of shoes and a change of clothes for my daughter since you won%26#39;t be going back to your hotel during the day.
Also, my last day, I sent my luggage home by fed ex so I didn%26#39;t have to get it to the airport. Then I checked my carry bags at Penn Station by AmTrack track 5 so that I didn%26#39;t have to keep it with me during the day. Finally, I used the airtrain which worked out well to leave the City.
GOOD LUCK whichever way you go!

some hopefully helpful information
http://www.broadwayfocus.com/nj_nyc/
there are sev. hotels in jersey city , just a few stops on path train - which is part of nj transit - costs $1.50 one way and sev. lines - going to wtc and 34st path station passing from newark thru downtown jc - exchange pl and newport/pavonia and also hoboken. the 3 right on the path are: hyatt (expensive) - exchange pl; doubletree suites - between exch.pl and newport stations(7 min walk safe). and marriots courtyard suites - at newport. as far as commute - it%26#39;s as good as staying on ues or uws. from newport to 34st is 20 min ride. from newport to wtc - 10-15 min. trains are not as often as in subways, but within 10-15 min. also at the moment with subway strike - it%26#39;s the only line working thru the manhattan (from e.village thru 6 ave :9st -14st -23stand finally - 34st). you can actually ride from 34st thru change at newport to wtc.
