Tkts Booth

My husband and I are planning a trip to NY, we will be there there 1/4/06 - 1/7/06. I had a few questions about the TKTS booth...what kind of shows do they usually have? How early do people start lining up? Is it worth the wait? How much are tickets? We were thinking we might rough it to get some tickets to see a show, but I wanted to get everyones opinion first.

TDF operates two booths -- the one in Duffy Square and one at the South St. Seaport. the Seaport location has no lines, plus you can purchase matinee tickets the day before.

I don%26#39;t particularly like the TKTS booth. It can be a long wait on line and you won%26#39;t know what%26#39;s available until you get to the box office. Even then, you can%26#39;t select your seats, and the vendors are not even very pleasant.

It%26#39;s so much more convenient to buy your tickets in advance. You can access discount codes and order online via broadwaybox.com.

For more info on TKTS, their web site lists what was available the prior week. It%26#39;s no guarantee of what will be available, but it will give you an idea:

Bettina is correct, the TKTS booth is a victim of its own popularity. Seemingly endless lines, no choice of seats and burly clerks.

broadwaybox.com or theatermania.com are much more civilized alternatives. Order tickets for sometimes better prices than TKTS and have a choice of seat options. Plus you don%26#39;t WASTE an hour or two in line.

Good Luck!

I sort of enjoyed my wait in line there on my first trip to NY. It gives you an excuse to stand still in the middle of the street, staring.

The downtown booth across from the South Street Seaport has much shorter lines (sometimes none) and the added convenience of selling matinee tickets the day before the show (so buy Tues. for Wed. matinee). Evening performances are the same day. If you%26#39;re going to be downtown anyway, it%26#39;s a good option.

That said, I agree it%26#39;s nicer to be able to buy tickets in advance and use a credit card. So IF something you want to see is available with a discount code in advance, that%26#39;s the easier option. But if you%26#39;d rather play it by ear, the TKTS booth is fine. Just remember you need cash (or travelers check).
