I am going to land in Newark and the next day early evening i have to get a flight from JFK - How long will it take to get there and how much would it cost me?
Im not sure also whether to stay in the Newark Airport area for the night or go to JFK Airport area for the night when i land? Is there anything to do close to the Newark area? I will be landing there around 9.00am so if there is any good shopping malls i wouldnt mind visiting them and staying over then going to JFK the next afternoon... Is Jersey Gardens near Newark and if so how long would it take to cover the mall area?
Sorry about all the questions - hope you can help!
Thanks
Newark to JFK - How Long?I live in England but used to live in both New Jersey and NYC so I know the area well! I suggest that you stay in the Newark/Elizabeth area and if it is shopping you want then you will be spoilt for choice. Jersey Gardens is only a 15 minute taxi ride from Newark Airport but as far as USA outlet centres go it is not the best but probably worth a visit. You absolutely MUST try to visit Garden State Plaza mall (www.westfield.com/GardenStatePlaza)- this used to be my %26#39;local%26#39; shopping centre and from Newark Airport it is a little over 20 miles on a very direct route and will take you approx. 30 mins by taxi. This mall is HUGE and it is worth mentioning that there is no sales tax on clothing in New Jersey which will save you at least 8% compared to shopping in NYC. If you look at their website you will see this mall has everything including some fantastic restaurants - I particularly recommend the California Pizza Kitchen (CPK.com).
To travel between Newark Airport and JFK takes a long time by taxi as you usually have to go via New York City (Manhattan) - allow at least one and half hours. I don%26#39;t know the fare but you must be able to look it up somewhere on the internet. Also, as with LGW and LHR airports I think there are regular bus transfers between EWR and JFK. If you need any more info, let me know!
Newark to JFK - How Long?the most direct route is the bus shuttle run by www.goairporter.com
$24/one-way; 90 minutes
if you don%26#39;t have car and want to shop in NJ, then you%26#39;ll need to investigate using NJ Transit busses www.njtransit.com
of course, the question is what do you plan on doing with your luggage while you shop?
there aren%26#39;t luggage lockers at Newark Airport as far as I recall
Thank you for the kind quick responses...
It looks like i could be staying in Newark then as Jersey Gardens is close so could go there the day i land, i will also try check out the other mall kindly suggested... I can just leave the luggage at the hotel and catch a cab to the malls.... $24 seems a bargain for a ride then to JFK the next day seeing that me and my partner are saving just over $200 flying to Newark rather then JFK in the first place...
Langton Lady/Broadway NYC... i have just realised i will be landing at 11.30am at Newark if i confirm this flight today (not 9am as i thought before)... Im guessing id be checked in by 2pm to my hotel... Is there still sufficent time in the day for me to go and visit Jersey Gardens or the Westfield Shopping Complex or do you think it would be too late?
By the time you have been through immigration at EWR (get off the plane and RUN or you may be stuck in a horrendous queue)and transferred to your hotel it will be around 1pm. Garden State Plaza Mall is open until 9.30pm every night and Jersey Gardens until 9.00pm. So you should have enough time to do one or the other - or both if you feel up to it! How much time do you have the next day before you have to catch your flight from JFK? The malls in NJ all open at 10am so there may be a chance to fit in some shopping before you leave for JFK. I was only in Garden State Plaza last month and I brought a few brochures back to the UK with me - if you want me to pop one in the post for you then I would be happy to do so. Out of interest are you flying BA to EWR?
I went on the website yesterday for the Garden State Mall and it looks impressive... I will prob look for a hotel close to the airport as we have to go to JFK the next day and will use the bus suggested by Broadway NYC... My flight is at 5.15pm the next day so il have to be at JFK for 2ish plus the 2 hours travelling time it takes to get there meaning i will leave Newark about midday... We are thinking of flying with BA to Newark, also had Continental as an option but they land in NJ at 15.30pm and that will be too late to go to the malls... I will however be back in NY for 5 days about 10 days later. We were going to go to Jersey Gardens then but we just thought if we can get it out of the way first it gives us another day to go somewhere else when we get back...
How much is a taxi to the Garden State Mall from close to the airport?
Thank You again for all the information you have provided for me!
Just to clarify, the bus from EWR to JFK is $24/person or $48 for 2. You%26#39;ll also need to pay for a hotel room. Then you%26#39;re going shopping. There are buses to Jersey Gardens from the airport, but not from hotels to my knowledge. You%26#39;d have to rent a car. Sounds like the $200 you%26#39;re saving in airfare will be spent before you get to JFK. ;) Also, you%26#39;ll have to go back to EWR from your hotel to catch the bus.
sounds to me that shopping is part of the rationale of flying into Newark ;-)
anyway, taxi from EWR (Newark Airport) to Garden State Mall (Westfield, NJ) is $37 + tip

NYWhizz, i would have to fork out for a hotel if i went to JFK anyway so im not too fussed if i stay the night in JFK or EWR... If i can get NJ out of the way though it means i dont have to come back there for shopping when i reurn to NY... Could try going Tanger or something else then?
BroadwayNYC thanks for the cab fares...
as nywhiz pointed out, it is important to remember that the bus from EWR to JFK is airport to airport
you%26#39;ll need to budget for taxi from:
1. EWR to your hotel
2. your hotel to Garden State Plaza mall
3. Garden State Plaza mall to Jersey Gardens
4. Jersey Gardens to your hotel
5. hotel to EWR
there may be hotels near Newark with free shuttle to EWR
this is assuming you have a hotel near Newark which would be the best option because otherwise you%26#39;ll be dragging your luggage and what you buy from place to place to place
