Taxi Fares to/from JFK and LGA During StrikeDoes anyone know if this is just during the strike or going to be in place from now on? I saw the link with the zone system etc.
Taxi Fares to/from JFK and LGA During StrikeThis is just during the strike, to encourage as many taxi drivers as possible to remain on the road. After the strike they will go back to metered per car fares (with the exception of the $45 per car plus toll %26amp; tip fare from JFK).
This is just during the strke. The big clue is the ';per person'; qualification; normally, the fare in a NYC cab depends on the trip alone, regardless of how many or how few people are in the car.
this is unacceptable. 4 of us arriving tommarow will have to pay $120.00+ to manhattan. we are going to the same place. it will be a 45 minute trip without the traffic.
i just don%26#39;t know how they can justify this.
An alternative is to take the airport bus at $15 per person, for a total of $60. You could also call a private car company and see what they%26#39;re charging.
The reasons for the special taxi strike fare include (1) providing a financial incentive for as many cabbies as possible to remain on the road for as long as possible, and (2) providing an easy (per capita) method of calculating multiple fares when there%26#39;s only one meter in the car. Unfortunately, there is this nasty effect on related groups traveling from point A to point B together.
If you want to try to negotiate the fare, you should do so before the taxi leaves the airport, not during the trip or at your destination. I understand there was an incident today where a cabbie was arrested after beating a woman passenger who didn%26#39;t want to pay the fixed fare, which she felt was too high.
thanks for the advice. i am trying to see if the W Hotel can help us. As much as we are paying for the room, they should send a helicopter for us.
I have to say I am really concerned about this strike!
I am arriving on Saturday and, fingers crossed, it should be calmer then....
