Air France

Hi, I flew Newcastle via Paris to Philly last weekend with Air France. I had already read the above posts and was a bit worried to say the least, what I will say is Air France themselves were excellent, nice plane Airbus 300?, very edible food and the pleasantest, most helpful crew I have ever flown with.

The downside is Paris CDG Airport which is the biggest mess I have ever come across, can%26#39;t quite believe how it is still open. We landed from the NCL flight on time and taxied to some where in the middle of the Terminals, got off and had to get on a bus, for at least 15 mins to the Terminal, our next terminal wasn%26#39;t very well signed and you have to keep checking you are going in the right dircetion, we got on another bus to the next terminal, again following the signs to our gate, then we had to get on another bus for at least 10 mins, we got off the bus to 1 duty free, a posh food shop, newsagents and a cafe which ran out of sandwiches before 12 o%26#39;clock! Our flight was at 1.20, at 12.30 we heard our names called over the tannoy as the last remaining passengers! So we jumped up, to the gate and guess what onto another bus!, by the time we got to the plane, we could have been in Orly, the plane was parked in the middle of nowhere, how you see it in films when the plane has been hijacked and they have taken it to the furthest point of the Airport!

You will need plenty of time for you and your luggage to get to the plane.

On th eway back it was only 3 buses to the plane, we had 2 hours between flights and our luggage didn%26#39;t make it onto the NCL flight, but at least it came on the next one!

All in all I like Air France very much but Paris, never again.

We did EDI - CDG - JFK last year and it was great. Air France is as good as any other airline, and the legroom and in-flight entertainment were really good.

As Saral says, Charles De Gaulle is a horrible (very smoky) airport, but you%26#39;re not there for long, so it won%26#39;t spoil things.

(Sorry this is long)

Hi there, I hope you have better luck than we did with Air France. Before you go make sure you have at least 3 hours between your flights in Paris. If not try to get them changed if you can.

I%26#39;ve flown all round the world and have never been treated the way we were by Air France. We had never been to Paris Charles De Gaulle so when our trip was organised by a travel agent we expected our connecting flights to catch each other.

On the way there I was first in the queue for check in but the flight was not open in Paris, if this happens to you please walk away and go to the end of the queue. The next person in the queue got seats allocated which meant we were the only 2 people on the flight that had no seats for the next flight.

When we got to Paris there was a minibus just for us and they took us away to go through customs, searched us and then back in minibus to catch the plane. We were made to feel like criminals and we were first in the queue for check in (makes no sense). So that was ok we got our flight.

On the way home we had the same time between flights (1 hour)...no minibus this time just a slow bus that goes round the whole terminal from A..B...C etc until the last stop ours. We ran off the bus right up to security, they took us right to the front of the queue and we arrived at our gate and had 30 mins to spare and there was no one there. We asked staff (no interest no help and I am very polite.) Eventually someone told us the plane had gone and our luggage had been removed. I cannot believe our luggage even had the time to be put from one plane to another.

So we had to go back through security in reverse to get another flight. That was an even bigger nightmare. I was willing to pay extra and still they told us as it was our fault they would just try to see if there was space (not kidding we might have to wait a few days!!!) I then demanded to call my travel agent and it was sorted we had flights booked. We were meant to fly at 9am from Paris we were now booked on the 6pm. A whole day in the terminal great fun!!!

I asked if the shops outside the departure lounge were better and was told yes there are many more shops. So we were directed to security again searched like no other airport I have been to and then followed by security until we were outside the departure lounge. How many shops about 4. So we went back through security and were searched again by the man who followed us and this time he opened every single present I had brought back from New York (souvenirs, magnets, pens etc) which were all wrapped up in a lovely pink paper which the Empire State Building staff has done specially. I felt like a criminal...and remember we had not left the building so what could we have picked up since the last search!!!

We then slept all day at one of the gates.

Now you would think that was enough but that was just the airport problem we had.

The flight was fine, food great, legroom great, very nice single girl from NYC beside us that was a real help. But 2 gentleman in front of us had to be threatened with Police Custody by the aircrew as they started to swear at us and other passengers. This was all because the Air France crew had provided them with about 10 bottles of wine each. (I blame them but they did handle the situation to a certain degree)

So if you like alot of free alcohol this is the company for you.

As I said I really hope you have nothing to worry about I am sure that this was a one off situation but REMEMBER to check the times because as mentioned before it can take 50mins to get from the plane to the terminal then you need to go through security and be back on the bus for another 50mins to your next plane.

GOOD LUCK!!

I just flew roundtrip on Air France JFK-CDG/Paris in November - not a glitch except the pre-arranged food order which didn%26#39;t show - otherwise on-time and perfect.

Must say i am a bit worried with my flight as my connect flight from Paris To New York has only a hour from when im due to land and then to take off!!!

Hiya,

Don%26#39;t worry about your flight times. We flew MAN-CDG then CDG-JFK we had two hours between flights. We spent that time going through scanners and travelling on three buses, we got to the the gate with half an hour to spare.

On our return journey I was worried as we only had one hour between flights. We were half an hour late setting off from JFK because a passenger had checked in their luggage and was a no show at the gate so their luggage had to be off loaded. We did not make up any time during the flight so we only had half an hour until the the Manchester flight left. Air France had a bus waiting at the steps of the plane and they took us to our Manchester flight, we still had to go through the scanners though. The Manchester flight was delayed waiting for us, so don%26#39;t worry they do take care of you.

One thing is our flight out from CDG-JFK was with Delta Airlines who are in partnership with Air France. Air France is definitely better than Delta.

Forgot to mention keep checking the departure boards as they moved our gate number twice from when we checked in, so keep an eye on it.

Craigy

That flight seems to be ok for us as there was a mini bus waiting. Just make sure they have you booked on a seat for that flight in Edinburgh.

If there is no mini bus waiting with your name just make sure you don%26#39;t leave the plane without demanding why as you know the gate will close 45 mins before the other flight is due to go and it does not take 15 mins to get to the terminal. I am sure the air crew will help.
