Any public transports from/to Parsippany to/from New York...

Hi,

I am a student from Montreal (got here from New Zealand 1 months ago) and i will be going to be at NY time square for count down this year. I have never been to NYC and it has been my dream! However, as most of you would know that all hotels around that area are booked.so i have managed to get a room at the Holidays Inn at Parsippany.

I can only drive on the ';wrong'; side of the road, so renting a car is really not a good idea.

Questions 1:

are there public transports go between the two cities?

Q2:

is any of the above avaible after midnight?

Q3:

if i have to take a taxi, how much approx would it be to go from NYC to Parsippany?

are there additional cost because it%26#39;s new year?

Thanks

Have a great holiday!!thanks

I would highly highly highly HIGHLY suggest changing your hotel reservation to somewhere in Manhattan or Queens or Brooklyn or the Bronx where there is subway service.

I cannot emphasize enough high bad of a location this is for what you want to do.

there is a Lakeland bus

http://www.lakelandbus.com

that leaves Port Authority at 1am that travels along Route 46

you might want to ask them if they stop near the Holiday Inn which is also on Route 46

You are going to be a long way from manhattan. There are still hotels available in manhattan-the millenium hilton is available at $229 a night.Maybe it is the cost.If so look closer in eg secauscus which is on the NJ side but much closer to manhattan and more availability of public transport.I notice there a few hotels at newark airport that have rooms at just over $100 and even that will be better from the transport point of view than parsippany.

By the way whats a kiwi doing being scared of driving on the wrong side of the road. This old aussie can do it.Besides arent the kiwis the masters of extreme sports? However I wouldnt be driving to manhattan though.

Thanks ';broadwaynyc'; but where is the port authority? how do i get there from time square?

is it safe going to time square at all? i heard some pretty scary stories....

To drron, are you a doctor?

i am a final year medical student from New Zealand. and i take risks on a lot of things, but not driving...

Too late for the hotel........i got offered 2 nights there by a travel agency include travel back and to Montreal for CAD230, i guess it not too bad....

Emailtosimon our new york friends are probably enjoying christmas now.Already boxing day here.

The port authority is close to times square-just go west on 42nd street to 8th ave and there it is.Have a great time. You will have to get in early to get anywhere near the ball drop.We were there last year.

And yes I am a physician.Maybe see you here one day.Lots of kiwis. However get over the worry about driving. The americans are very courteous drivers and I have never had a problem even in new york and boston which I have found the only 2 places you can have a worry driving.

oooo!!

dr.ran, you are in Queensland!!

you scared me, i thought new york is a day ahead of us for some reason!!

merry christmas doc, i will in Australia for my training intern, in 2007. which area are you specialised in?

QUESTION:

on lakeland%26#39;s website, it states that i can buy tickets from windows 1 to 10 at port authority, i assume they are talking about the port authority bus terminal huh?

also, it states that tickets have no expiry dates on it. does that mean even if we got the tickets after we arrived in New York, we still may not get onto the bus because it%26#39;s too full???

aarrrrhh!

there are no designated seats on buses

first come, first served

you line up at the gate at Port Authority Bus Terminal before scheduled departure time

so, yes, it is possible to buy a ticket and not be able to get on the bus to get back home

these are the big buses which seat about 40 and has standing room for another 15 or so
