Hi, I have booked a trip to New York City in February next year, and it turns out that the week I am there coincides with Presidents Day. I have heard that schools have a holiday the week of Presidents Day...is that correct? and if so, will this have much effect on the crowds in touristy areas, shopping etc? I am guessing that I should stay away from places like Woodbury Common Outlets, is that a good idea? How about places like ESB TOTR and statue of liberty?
President's Day
Presidents week is a great week for shopping in NY b/c there are great sales to be found all over, including the outlets like Woodbury Commons. Its true that kids are out of school that week, but school vacation weeks are also big travel weeks for families who leave NY and go to warm and sunny destinations. By Presidents week, we are eager to see the end of the winter here in NY and know we have another 2 months to go!! LOL :-)
President's Day
in general it is true about bigger crowds especially that weekend that coincides with the Monday holiday; I usually see long lines at TKTS; also banks and governmental offices including post offices are closed
We are thinking of flying to Niagara Falls for the day on President%26#39;s Day. Do you think this is a good or bad idea?
We plan to catch a bus from the airport to the falls, will bus times be affected by the holiday?
Aussie Chick20 dont worry.American public holidays are unlike those in australia.Apart from Christmas day you are basically able to do everything you want.A few years ago we were in Oklahoma for easter. On Good Friday we rang a shopping centre mrsdrron wanted to visit to see if they would be open. The reply-why wouldnt we be.
Niagara falls should be spectactular. We were there on anzac day(4/25 for our american friends) and were in awe with solid blocks of ice going over the falls. We had been quite upset that our travel agent hadnt been able to get us on the maid of the mist tour but when we got there we understood why.
As has been said there are often good sales around presidents day so dont worry.
Frankly I wouldn%26#39;t pick President%26#39;s Day itself to do the trip to Niagara Falls unless there%26#39;s some big reason to go that day. You%26#39;ll likely get better prices on another day. Jet Blue has very good prices from JFK to Buffalo. I think there are buses from there to the falls. Be sure to read up on immigration rules and have your passports with you. You will want to go to the Canadian side to see the falls from there and will have to cross back. Here%26#39;s some more info

I agree - go to Niagra Falls on a Tuesday or something, not on a Monday holiday.
One of the best ways we Americans pay tribute to the founders and past leaders of out country is by shopping for sheets and towels at discount prices! Be a part of this tradition. Knock yourselves out, but be prepared for crowds of patriots honoring our nation!!
